Dirang

Dirang is located about 43 km from Bomdila on the way to Tawang. Dirang is located on the bank of river Kameng (Known as Jia Bharali in Assam). Since it is on the river valley the altitude is relatively low (4900 ft.). 

Dirang welcomes you with lush green forest, snow-capped mountains & gushing streams, Dirang is a perfect environment where you will feel at home away from Home.

Dirang justifies the halt that one should make to reach Tawang. It is also known as trekker’s paradise where it comes in the form of Sangti valley.

Tawang

Tawang- Birth place of the sixth Dalai Lama – Tsangyang Gyatso

Tawang is a town in the Himalayas in the far west of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. Tawang town is located approximately 555 kms (345 mi) from Guwahati and 320 kms (200 mi) from Tezpur. Tawang has an average elevation of 2,669 meters (8,757 ft.).It is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,048 meters (10,000 ft.) to the east of Bhutan.

Tawang Monastery. A Tibetan Buddhist gompa (fortified monastery) of the Gelugpa sect that was constructed in 1681. It is the second-largest Buddhist monastery in the world and home to more than 500 lamas (monks).

Some of the major tourist spots in Tawang are Sela Pass, Tawang Monastery, Shungetsar (Madhuri) Lake, Nuranang Falls, Bumla Pass (China Border), Tawang War Memorial, Gorichen Peak, Jaswanth Garh, P T Tso Lake and many more.

Bumla Pass & Madhuri Lake

The Bum La Pass is located about 37 km away from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, at the Indo-China border above 15,200 ft. above sea level.

It is often covered with heavy snow throughout the year. It is one of the most off-beat passes in the world and is also referred to as the pass from where Dalai Lama entered India escaping from Tibet.

Visit by civilian tourist of India is permissible with permission from the Indian Army. The track is very treacherous, only SUVs advisable, and that too only on clear weather day with no snowfall or rainfall.

Arunachal Pradesh is home to many beautiful lakes but none as beautiful as Madhuri lake. Spellbound combination of Rocky Mountains and a lake.

The Sangestar Tso Lake is also called as Madhuri Lake, which is located on the way from Tawang to Bum La Pass in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, near Indo-China border above 15,200 ft above sea level.

Sela Pass

Sela Pass crosses a subrange of the Himalayas that separates Tawang District from the rest of India. The pass is 4170 m (13,700 ft.) high and is situated at a distance of 78 km from Tawang town and 340 km from Guwahati.

Sela Pass is a sacred site in Tibetan Buddhism. Buddhists believe that there are about 101 sacred lakes in and around the pass. Sela Pass does get heavy snowfall in winters, it is usually open throughout the year unless landslides or snow require the pass to be shut down temporarily.

According to legend, a sepoy of the Indian Army named Jaswant Singh Rawat fought alone against the Chinese soldiers near the pass during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. A tribal woman named Sela who had brought food and water to him is said to have killed herself upon seeing the dead body of Jaswant Singh Rawat. Singh was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for his courage and devotion to duty.

Bomdila

Bomdila is located in the northwestern part of the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India.

 This small town has a population of less than 10,000 people, is 8,800 feet above sea level, and is the home of the Monpa, Aka, Miji, Sherdukpen, and Bogun tribes. The best time to visit Bomdila is between April and October

Bomdila offers to the tourist panoramic view of the awesome Himalayan terrain with its snow-covered mountains. It is famous for its apple orchids and travelers can take a walk through them. It also has a couple of Buddhist monasteries or gompas. The area around Bomdila has a number of trekking and hiking trails that attracts the adventure seeker.

Zemithang

Zemithang is a village panchayat located in the Tawang district of Arunachal-Pradesh, India. Zemithang is in the extreme end of Tawang district, in the border of China. Zemithang is 179 kms away from Guwahati and 70kms (3 Hrs.) from Tawang via Bumla Pass road. It’s a day trip from Tawang where one can enjoy the lush green valleys and the landscapes covered in snow during the end & starting of the year when the temperature goes down to minus. The native language of Zemithang is English and most of the village people speak English. Zemithang people use English language for communication.
